【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Remains of Kubaka-jo Castle
The Remains of Kubaka-jo Castle is located at the western entrance to the Irie Settlement. It is the remains of the castle where Kubaka-azu resided. The Yoseikyuki (1727) says that the length was 56.4 m, and the width was 45.5 m, and the gate faced the southwest. Legend has it that the reason was the unrivaled power of the lord, Kubaka-azu.
In addition, the Miyakojima-Kiji (1752) carries an article titled “the origin of a strength contest between Kubaka-azu of Sugama Village, Miyako Island and Nigiyamono of the Yaeyama Islands.”
Kubaka-jo Castle is the remains of a castle structure of Miyako, and still keeps the quarry stonemasonry almost in its original state. There are also related stories such as those involving Koujin Migamama of Miyaguni and Kisama-azu.
