【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Arafu Remains

The Arafu Remain (from 2,800 to 1,900 years ago) is from the Sakishima Prehistoric Age (late Jo-mon Period to Yayoi Period) during the Non-pottery Era located on the coastal sand dunes of the Aragusuku shoreline on the eastern side of Miyako Island.
The site is in the sand dunes that extends approximately 800 meters generally facing north. In the sea area in the front are developed coral reefs, and in the behind is a lowland that leads up to a steep slope starting at more than 80 meters in altitude. On the slope, you can see some spots of spring water seeping out from unconfirmed layers between the mud-rock layer and the Ryukyu limestone layer.
