Emerald Dove (Kinbato: Chalcophaps indica)

A unique subspecies that inhabit Miyako, Ishigaki, Iriomote, Hatoma, and Yonaguni Islands. It is a smaller pigeon, about 25cm in total length, with a beautiful golden green metallic luster on its wings. The head is a bluish-grey, with white from its forehead to the eyebrow, or the supercilium, and from the chest to its stomach area, is grey in color with a touch of purple. On its lower back are two grey lines. It has a brilliant red beak and legs. It spends the day in the dense forests and at sunrise and sundown, it flies the forest trails, grassy fields, and even on farmlands to feed. These birds mostly feed on vegetation, but at times, they feed on insects. They make their nests not too high from the ground, with various small branches, and they normally lay two, cream-colored eggs.
They are found in areas from southern China to northern Australia, and small differences can be observed in various regions, and are classified in 11 subspecies. (Designated without a specific area.)
