Kanamaraabu

Kanamaraabu is located about 300 m north from the middle of Farm Road 78 in Nagayama, south of Irabu Island. It is a vertical hole of 54.4 m in depth, about the same as the sea level. The entrance to the cave is about 0.8 m wide and 1.8 m long, and the first stepping point after the entrance is 35 m below. There are tunnels developed 20 m inside, where bats inhabit. The floor is of clay and the tunnels develop towards the west and northwest. In the tunnel towards the west, icicle-shaped, bamboo sprout-shaped, and pillar-shaped stones can be found. The tunnel towards the southwest has a shaft, like a well deep inside, which again connects to the original hole.
Fossilized bones of human, roe deer, Miyakokokikugashirakoumori (bat), etc. are found in Kanamaraabu.
The human bones, to be specific, are estimated to be from 20,000 years ago.
