【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Tauwainmiabu
Tauwainmiabu is located about 30 m inward from the roadside, which is about 50 m south of the T-intersection of the road between Pyazu Utaki (Kunmaukya Utaki) and Former Town Road 105 (a loop line), and the road leading to the Observatory.
It is 65 m deep and a pond exists at the bottom where fish were confirmed.
The fish, whose eyes have degenerated and become white, are considered to have been confined in the pond hundreds of thousands to over a million years ago. They are thought to be rare creatures found only in Irabu Island within Japan.
Also found are small shrimp and crab. Measures to preserve all such life should be taken. The water there is a mixture of fresh and sea water. As the pond is about sea level and is affected by the tides, it is highly likely to be connected to the sea.Other signs of creatures found in Tauwainmiabu are fossilized bones of roe deer, Kenaganezumi rats, etc..
