【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Nugusuku-ga

Nugusuku-ga

Nugusuku Remains are located at the Ryukyu limestone hillside (about 65 m high) that stretches from east to west along the northeastern coast of Fukuhoku settlement. Nugusuku-ga, situated in the southwestern part, is a natural spring with the style of Ugari-ga constructed by ashlar masonry around the mouth of a spring, located at the foot of a high limestone ground (50-67 m high). The spring still has an abundant flow of water.
Nugusuku-ga was presumably used as a source of drinking water by the group of Nugusuku-aji who is considered to be related to Nugusuku Remains. The remains are known to date back to about 13th or 14th century. However, it is not known when ashlar masonry was practiced on the spring.Even now, Nugusuku-ga is frequently used by the people in the neighborhood, especially for bathing on the way back from the beach of Urasoko.

Recently, the road to Urasoko Port has been newly laid, and work to use the water as for irrigation has been done. The flowing water is used widely for various purposes.
