【Designated by the City：Tangible Folk】Kyaza-ga

It is an old well believed to have been dug in the time of Shinzato-Motojima. It is unknown exactly when the well was dug.The well is still used exclusively by the community after the settlement of Shinzato-Motojima moved to the current location following the Great Tsunami of Meiwa in 1771. It has supported the residents’ daily life in the modern era, and has been valued as an essential source of water.
The well is no longer used as a source of potable water as the water pipe system was entirely installed in 1965.
