Tomb of Nakasone Tuyumya

Tomb of Chirimara Tuyumya

Atonma Tomb

The grave of Tuyumya-baka consists of three tombs. One of them is the Tomb of Nakasone Tuyumya, who was the chieftain of Miyako from the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 16th century, and the tomb also enshrines his descendants, the Chudo-uji clan.
The second tomb is the Tomb of Chirimara Tuyumya, the tomb of the Miyagane-uji clan who were the descendents of the third son of Nakasone Tuyumya, and is said to have been constructed around 1750 (15th year of the Qianlong Chinese Emperial Era) by the head of Hirara and a descendant of the clan, Kanpu.
The third tomb is the Atonma Tomb, which enshrines the second wives of the Chudo-uji clan.
The unique characteristics of the gravesite are the tsunpun (or hinpun) stone gates at the entrance of the tomb, and the short, stone pillars that are erect at the upper part of the tomb. On the top surface of the stone pillars are concaves where wooden beams can be placed to support a roof during rituals. The construction of the tomb is unique and makes it a valuable asset as such styles are not found anywhere else within Okinawa.
