【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Pinzaabu Site

Pinzaabu Site

Pinzaabu was excavated in 1980 by Prof. Yoshikazu Hasegawa of Yokohama National University. Human bone pieces and fossils considered to be those of mice, deer, snakes and large wildcats have been found. According to the evaluation by Prof. Hajime Sakura of the National Museum of Nature and Science, the human bone can be traced back to a Paleolithic man of approximately 20,000 years ago. It has also become clear that fossils considered to be those of wildcats and others are of archaeological and paleontological importance. As such a discovery of fossils of a Paleolithic man of 20,000 years ago is rare throughout the nation, as well as being the southernmost finding, it will provide valuable suggestion in learning the history of Miyako.
Pinzaabu, where many precious fossils have been found, is an important site historically and archaeologically, and therefore it should be preserved while closer investigation takes place.
