【Designated by the City:Natural Monument (Flora)】Irabu-Nasubi
It is an indigenous species belonging to the nightshade family, and only inhabit in the surrounding areas of shores in Irabu Island and *Higashihennazaki. Although it was discovered as a subspecies of Solanumindicum L in 1972, Shinjun Tawada presented it as an indigenous species instead of a subspecies, and named it Irabu-Nasubi. Later in 1990, Takashi Yamazaki of the University of Tokyo and Anki Takushi, an Okinawa Prefectural Government employee, delivered a paper that it was a new species, officially confirming it as Irabu-Nasubi (Solanum miyakojimense T.Yamaz. et Takushi).
Compared with apple of Sodom nightshade, its leaves are small, its stems and prickles are terete and not so flat, and its flowers are small as well. In addition, calyces are slightly split with small sepals and white corollas. The plant can also be seen in the surrounding area of Sabautsu-ga, and grows in seashores where the north winds are strong.
