It is told that this tomb was constructed by Nakasone Tuyumya, a chieftain who controlled Miyako from the end of the 15thcentury to the beginning of the 16th century. It is said he constructed the tomb in respect to his father, Mayunofa-Tuyumya. The tomb has a mixture of styles, combining the Myaka style of Miyako, and the cave-like structure of Okinawa Island.
