【Prefecturally Designated:Historic Site】Sacred Tamaishi Rock of Nobarudake
Located halfway up the mountain of Nobarudake on the south side, this sacred rock was originally placed on the northwestern side near the summit. The sacred rock is column-shaped and is made of Ryukyu limestone, and is 110cm in diameter and 135cm in height. According to lore, around 600 years ago, Otake-aji, the chieftain who controlled this area, had this sacred rock made as a guardian deity and erected it near the summit of Nobarudake. The sacred rock is locally referred to as Tamazara Utaki and is still revered by the people today. This is an important relic to learn about the people and their beliefs in Okinawa (Miyako) in the past ages, towards sacred rocks.
