【Irabu】Irau-Taogani
Taogani is said to be the first selection of long-sung old balladry, compiled and spread by Togani.
Irau-Taogani is different from Miyako Togani in melody; Irau-Taogani is often sung at celebrations and feasts and is an improvised performance themed on nature, love, filial piety, teaching, compassion, and various others. Irabu-Togani, which has become popularized, was sung and spread by Mr. Genji Kuniyosi in the 1960s.In Irabu, songs are slightly different in modulation and melody depending on region, and took the forms of Sadayau, Funnakayau, Uraiyau, and others. Being the major lyric poems in Miyako, they are mainly sung in F minor and C flat minor. There are nine kinds of lyrics and styles of singing that have been handed down to the present.
On the night of September 15, the Irabu Togani Festival is held in Irabu in a bid for dissemination and succession of the songs.
