【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Funaha-ga

Funaha-ga

In the naturally grown forest behind the well, there stands Irabu Nakatozu Utaki, a sacred site.
It is said that there existed Funapa-mura, Upozato-mura in the north, and Upodou-mura in the east.
The well is considered to have been discovered in around 1430, and it played a leading role in the establishment of the three villages. Later, in 1735, settlers came in from outside. The well is an important historic site that recalls the history of the communities in the past.
The deity of the well is a goddess, who is devoutly worshipped as Mifutsunusu (beautiful goddess) of Uyanazu-ga and Ongunusu (guardian of gods), together with her husband, a god who is enshrined at Kanzato-ga, a well located in the west of the community. The well has been used as a source of industrial water for the Irabu Sugar Refinery since around 1961.
