【Designated by the City:Tangible Folk】Nugana-ga
The Nugana-ga is a spring that is located approximately 500 west of the Higa settlement, in an area known as Nokanasaji. The spring is semielliptic in shape, where clear water flows from about a third of the height on the north side of a wall made from cut and piled Ryukyu limestone, measuring about 5m in diameter, 4m at the minor axis, and 0.7m in height. The double structure separated the use of the water, where the north side was used for drinking and the south side was used for washing cows and horses, and the used water was then recycled for the paddy fields. It is said that there once was a settlement in this area called the Isu-Harazato that prospered, using the water from the Nugana-ga.
There are no records when this settlement came about, or when it disappeared, or if it relocated elsewhere. Furthermore, there have been no confirmation of artifacts or relics that give clues to this settlement. Since the complete distribution of water supply in 1965, the Nugana-ga has not been in use.
