【war-related site】War Ruins of Ariyama

Located southeast of the Higashiyama Farm Pond at the hills of Nagayama are ruins which include a power generation bunker, pillbox bunker, and a reservoir. It is said that the bunker used for the power generator was constructed by the 313th Construction Corps of the Navy. There are documented records that a communication corps was stationed in this vicinity, and it is believed that the bunker for power generation was used to run the radar equipment. The pillbox bunker was constructed on top of the hill that commands a panoramic view to the south of Miyako Island and was also used as a lookout. Bedrock is dug to form the interior which is large enough for about two people and concrete is laid on the surfaces.
The reservoir, constructed to collect rainwater, is approximately 2.5m x 1.5m in size, and it remains in almost a complete, original state. However, it is now covered up for safety reason.
