Kisama Utaki Sacred Site

Located approximately 200m from the Kawamitsu settlement in Shimoji, this is a historical Utaki or sacred site which is also recorded in the history books of Utaki Yuraiki (The Origins of Utaki, 1705), and Ryukyu Koku Yuraiki (The Origins of the Ryukyu Dynasty, 1713). It is said the Matanewaka-aji is enshrined here, who is said to be the god of Urashima.The area of worship is surrounded by stone walls, and the grounds are over 100m2 in area with stone steps and a Komoriya structure and Mutu. It is forbidden to trim the trees or have men in the worship area except on the day of Yamaaki in June of the lunar calendar.
Rituals held at this Utaki include the Yuukui in February and October, and the Komori Kigan in February and November, all according to the lunar calendar.
