【Designated by the City:Historic Site】Ara-ga

Ara-ga
Ara-ga, located in the west of Sawada, is the oldest well in the community. The well shaft is about 4 to 4.5 m deep and stands on the grounds about 8 m in length and about 6 m in width.Long ago, there was a thick forest around the area. It is said that people found the well, seeing doves frequently going in and out of the woods, and therefore it is also called the “well found by doves.”The discovery of the well presumably led the communities near Mutuyukui to settle down in present Ieatobaru.

The structure is simple, with edges of spring water being surrounded by stones. During the era of Ufuya, it underwent large repairs and laid the foundation for the formation of settlements of present Sawada.
