【Designated by the City:Tangible Folk】Tsunuji Utaki Sacred Site
Festivals are held on the days of kinoe-uma in June, August and October of the lunar calendar at a distant worship site of Akazaki Utaki that enshrines Ufuyununusu, in addition to the worship service held in November.
According to the origin of the Utaki, a man headed off for festive occasions in Akazaki Utaki. However, he was caught in a heavy rain. He was at a loss, and took shelter from the rain by a large rock. Since the rain would not stop and kept him away from the Utaki, he thought out a plan and made an offering to the rock. After reporting the situation to Ufuyununusu, he made his way back home.
Since then, the rock he took shelter by has come to be worshiped as a figure of the deity of Akazaki Utaki. Nowadays, only priests and priestesses visit Akzaki Utaki, and the rest of the people worship from a distance, from Tsunoji Utaki. The main shrine made of concrete was built in 1932, with donations from inside and outside of the island. It was repaired after being damaged in the war. When the building deteriorated after ages, it was built additionally with donations. The site is filled with visitors even now.
